Tom West is a songwriter and fingerpicker. With songs inspired by lost love and getting lost, they traverse the rocky ground between simple folk tunes and grand and moody soundscapes.
Tom West learned how to play in the low-lit bars and pubs of Adelaide, Australia. Songs were tested at open mics and schoolyard concerts before graduating to modest home town shows before playing to packed out crowds in signature venues, as well performances at some of the biggest festivals and music conferences in Australia and North America. West’s performances are characterized by complex patters on unconventional open tuned guitars, haunting melodies with pop sensibilities and a knack for engaging storytelling.
West’s self-produced and recorded debut album ‘A Spark in the Dark’, launched in August 2013, was described by TheMusic.com.au as ‘an album worth remembering’ providing ‘more than meets the eye.’ According to Melbourne’s Beat Magazine, ‘the album is characterized by heartfelt vocal performances that send out an emotive invitation to the listener.’
In a live setting Tom West provides intricate guitar work with a vocal performance that soars one moment before singing with heart wrenching simplicity in the next. West is equally capable of delivering a stirring performance accompanied by a 3-piece band, or performing solo.
