ROOK produces music at the crossroads between French folk music, reggae and pop. On stage, he sublimates genres with naturalness, and gives groove its full place.
It was in his childhood in Senegal that Julien Imbert (alias ROOK) forged his musical influences: Salif Keita, Cesaria Evora, Positive Black Soul, Daara J (...) and of course reggae. Back in France, his native country, he became interested in the free writing style of Rap and travelled all over France, Switzerland and Belgium alongside sound systems.
From 2014 to 2018 with his former band RookieRook & Compagnie, formed with up to eight musicians, he gave about a hundred concerts across Quebec and received several awards: Francos, SACEF/ Vision Diversité/ Place des Arts.
In 2018, ROOK explored new sounds experimented during a tour in France. The new band’s first Montreal performance seduced the Astral audience last October and will be honoured with the Coup de Coeur award from Francofolies.
On June 14, ROOK will unveil the video clip of Détour, first track of his EP expected this fall. ROOK will also perform at the FrancoFolies de Montréal on June 18.
