Business Development Assistant Internship - Ticketing


Indie Montreal is looking for an intern to help with the development of its ticketing department! Applicants must be highly motivated, enthusiastic and have very strong interpersonal skills, with an interest in business development and in working in or discovering the music and cultural industries. The intern will be immersed in various aspects of sales and marketing in the cultural industries for an established Canadian music company. Because Indie Montreal is a small business, the coordinator will complete valued tasks on the company’s front lines. The intern will work on daily duties, medium-term and long-term projects, supervised directly by the Director of Indie Montreal. Indie Montreal works to develop Thepointofsale.com (Lepointdevente.com in French), a Québécois event-ticketing platform, over the Montreal territory. The intern will also be required on-site for events.


Dates: Flexible dates – the stage renews every 6 months

Hours: 15-20 hours per week

Salary: Unpaid Internship

Languages: English & French, fluent spoken and written

Location: Work to be done at Indie Montreal office and in the field, with ongoing guidance and feedback. To meet with supervisor during weekly staff meetings


Assets – Skills, Training & Interests:

·      An interest in management and marketing

·      Very organized with keen attention to detail

·      Very advanced interpersonal skills

·      Experience in box office management and/or event production an asset

·      Experience in marketing and knowledge related to business development

·      Experience managing a team or in human resources an asset

·      Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

·      Knowledge of Google Docs and Google Calendar

·      Good instinct for sales and marketing

·      Music-related professional experience an asset

·      A general interest in music, arts & culture


·      Client prospection and development for Thepointofsale.com / Lepointdevente.com, a Québécois ticketing and event management platform

·      Updating lists of current and potential clients

·      Follow-up with potential clients

·      Ticket printing, troubleshooting

·      Updating Lepointdevente.com’s CRM system

·      Involvement in developing the Indie Montreal (IMTL) and Lepointdevente.com brands

·      Involvement on-site at events

·      Other various related tasks



·      Experience in business development and in putting a service to market in the event space

·      Field marketing and sales experience

·      Direct experience with local and regional music industry leaders

·      Experience dealing with international music industry professionals, including Venues, Promoters, Agents, etc.

·      The benefit of working alongside IMTL’s other departments, which provide insight into other areas of the artist development process

·      Possible occasional regional travel with other Indie Montreal staff

·      Free entrance to Indie Montreal events


This is an unpaid position

Indie Montreal will work with any educational institution to ensure that the intern receives any due academic credit for their work and experience.
